Design has become an integral part of my creative process. Working for companies like the BBC, Sky, Amazon Prime, PBS, Smithsonian, Off the Fence, WaterBear… I design treatments and decks for new film concepts and story ideas that have the capacity to inform the design of the film itself once in production. I create mood boards, colour scripts, physical and digital props, dress sets, and consult for GFX and CGI sequences.
For my own films, design is a way for me to communicate the overall message, the mood and emotion of a sequence, quickly and effectively. For other directors, working with me gives them the creative outlet to really visualise their ideas before they start to film. We create posters. We make storyboards. We create graphics - all alongside the editorial process of finding stories, securing access and filming on location.
It always begins with treatments and pitches - but it has the capacity to become so much more than that…
